1. Where these rules apply
These rules apply to Butterbug’s player guestbook, public nicknames, and any other community submission we add to butterbuggames.com. They work alongside our Privacy Policy.
Anyone can play without joining the community. An account is required to submit a guestbook note, and accounts are available only to people who say they are age 13 or older.
2. Help this stay a gentle corner
We welcome honest reactions, bug reports, ideas, questions, and constructive criticism. Disagreement is okay. Cruelty is not. Focus feedback on the game or idea, give other people room to enjoy things differently, and write as though a younger player or family might read it.
3. What not to post
Do not submit:
- harassment, bullying, threats, intimidation, or encouragement of harm;
- hateful or demeaning content targeting protected characteristics;
- sexual or exploitative content, especially anything involving minors;
- graphic violence, instructions for dangerous wrongdoing, or illegal material;
- someone’s personal or confidential information, including your own full name, email, address, phone number, school, precise location, login details, or private messages;
- spam, repetitive posts, scams, deceptive links, advertising, solicitation, or attempts to manipulate the guestbook;
- impersonation or a nickname that falsely suggests you represent Butterbug or another person;
- malware, code intended to disrupt the site, or attempts to bypass safety and rate limits;
- content you do not have the right to share, including copied writing or material that violates copyright, privacy, or other rights; or
- anything mainly intended to spoil another player’s experience. If a useful note includes a story spoiler, clearly say so first.
4. Nicknames and privacy
Your nickname appears beside any approved note. Choose a nickname instead of a full legal name, email address, social handle, school, workplace, or other contact information. Do not use another person’s identity.
Comments are public once approved. Do not post something you expect to remain private. For account and data details, read the Privacy Policy.
5. Review and moderation
Every note starts in a pending state and is reviewed by the studio before publication. Submission does not guarantee publication. We may approve, hide, decline, or remove content to apply these rules, protect people, keep comments useful, comply with law, or preserve the tone of the guestbook.
We may act on an account when someone repeatedly or seriously breaks these rules. Depending on the situation, that can include a warning, hiding or removing comments, limiting community access, or deleting an account. We may preserve or report material when reasonably necessary to address a credible safety risk or legal obligation.
Moderation involves judgment. These examples are not exhaustive, and we may consider context, severity, repetition, and the likely effect on others.
6. Your comments and our use
You remain responsible for what you submit. By submitting a note, you give Butterbug permission to host, display, reproduce, and format it as needed to operate and present the guestbook. This permission is non-exclusive and worldwide, and ends when the comment is deleted from our active service except for limited backups, legal records, or material we must preserve.
You can view and delete your own comments from My nook. Deleting your account also removes your Butterbug comments as described in the Privacy Policy.
7. Reporting and questions
To report a public comment, ask about a moderation decision, or raise a safety concern, email [email protected] with the subject “Community report.” Include the game, nickname, and enough detail for us to find the comment. Do not forward illegal or exploitative material; describe where it appears instead.
Butterbug is not an emergency service. If someone may be in immediate danger, contact local emergency services or a trusted person who can help.
8. Changes
We may update these rules as the community tools grow. We will post the updated version here and change the effective date. Continuing to submit content after an update means the new rules apply to future participation.
